Natural Products Inspired Drug Discovery & Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory

IICT Logo

The focus of the Bharate Research Group is a natural products-driven drug discovery and medicinal chemistry, primarily in the areas of oncology and neurodegenerative diseases

Research

Natural Products has always served as an important source of many drugs and still it has a huge potential to deliver potential leads for unmet medical needs. Oncology and neurodegenerative diseases are among the frontline challenges among drug discovery researchers because of the hard-press unmet need. Our research group has been actively working on exploring natural product scaffolds to identify potential leads/ starting points for medicinal chemistry in these therapeutic areas. The medicinal chemistry efforts are target driven and encompass the classical lead optimization strategies to discover potential preclinical leads suitable for IND-enabling studies. The main focus of the group is exploring the kinases as molecular targets. The group has been successful in discovering a small molecule kinase inhibitor that has reached a clinical trial for metastatic pancreatic cancer.
